Inside Apple Immersive Video — Ben Allan & Clara Chong

Justin Ryan (Spatial Insider) sits down with Ben Allan and Clara Chong — award-winning filmmakers and two of the leading experts in Apple Immersive Video. In this 34-minute conversation, they cover the full production journey: the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive workflow, DaVinci Resolve and Fairlight post-production, the creative and storytelling challenges unique to 180° space, and why this format has more in common with IMAX than traditional film or VR. Ben and Clara also discuss their book, Cinematic Immersive for Professionals.

A few numbers that put the format in perspective: Standard laser IMAX = 212 million pixels/sec. URSA Cine Immersive = 10.5 billion. ProRes masters run ~150 GB per minute. A 10-minute drama shoot produced 11.5 terabytes in two days.
